Plant Extracts for a Sustainable pest Management

The online conference is organized by the MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and Business from the International Hellenic University and the MSc in Phytoiatrics and Environment from the University of Thessaly.

Date: Thursday 19/12/2024

Time: 16:00-18:00 CET (17.00 – 19.00 | Greek Time)

Keynote Speakers:

– Dr Trifone D’Addabbo

Senior researcher, Institute of Sustainable Plant Protection, Bari, Italy

Title of the presentation:

Plant-derived products for a sustainable management of phytoparasitic nematodes.

Dr. Trifone D’Addabbo has been responsible for an over thirty-year research activity on sustainable management of phytoparasitic nematodes, with a particular reference to the characterization of the nematicidal properties of plant species from various botanical families.  He is author or coauthor of more than 200 scientific works, consisting of articles in international journals and presentations at international and national conferences.

– Dra. Azucena González Coloma

Senior Scientific Researcher in the Department of Plant Protection of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (CSIC, Spain)

Title of the presentation:

New nematicidal agents from fungal endophytes

Dr. González Coloma (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5124-664X) is a Senior Scientific Researcher in the Department of Plant Protection of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences of the CSIC in Spain. Her line of research focuses on the biotechnological production of botanical and fungal biopesticides. Her research includes bioprospection, production and optimization of biopesticides from the flora of various regions of Spain and other parts of the world, agricultural residues and fungal endophytes. The group of biopesticides that she leads is multidisciplinary, it screens and identifies metabolites with insecticidal, antifungal and nematicidal effects. She also explores mechanisms of action and structure-activity relationships, biotechnological optimization of the production of endophyte metabolites, plant metagenomic approaches to endophyte discovery and priming effects of these active metabolites on crops. She has published more than 200 scientific articles in indexed journals, elaborated patents (11) and has directed 14 Doctoral Theses among other contributions. He has led numerous national and international research projects at national, international and cooperation levels.

– Prof. Pierluigi Caboni

Department of Life Sciences and Environment, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biology, University of Cagliari, Italy

Title of the presentation:

Chemical composition analysis of bioactive botanical extracs

Prof. Pierluigi Caboni specializes in developing advanced high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) techniques, including electrostatic trap (Orbitrap), ion mobility, and time-of-flight (IM-QTOFMS, QTOFMS). His research spans applied clinical metabolomics and lipidomics, pre-clinical research, and experimental design, focusing on multivariate statistics and data analysis. Additional areas of expertise include chemical analysis of food and nutraceuticals, drug analysis, environmental analysis, and forensic and drug toxicology.

– Dr Aude Kienzler

Scientific officer at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)

Title of the presentation:

Environmental Risk assessment of conventional vs low concern pesticides: where do we stand?

Dr Aude Kienzler is a scientific officer at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) since 2020. She has a background in agronomy and a PhD in environmental chemistry with a focus in ecogenotoxicology. In her current work, in the ecotoxicology team of the Environment, Plants & Ecotoxicology Unit of EFSA, she contributes to the peer review of the environmental risk assessment of active substances and is involved in an ongoing project aiming at developing a fit-for-purpose risk assessment methodology for low-concern active substances.

The online conference will be offered through the zoom platform.

After the completion of registration, you will automatically receive the zoom link for attending the event.
